                            What Is Oxeltra

Oxeltra  is a prolonged-release tablet containing oxycodone hydrochloride, primarily used for the treatment of moderate to severe pain in patients with cancer and post-operative pain. It is classified as a strong opioid analgesic and is indicated for severe pain requiring opioid treatment.

          Oxeltra Composition and Formulation

Each Oxeltra  tablet contains 72mg of oxycodone as oxycodone hydrochloride, along with excipients such as lactose monohydrate (63.20mg) and others that aid in the formulation of the tablet. The tablets are green, round, biconvex, and marked “OX 80” on one side

                        Oxeltra Dosage and Administration

Starting Dose: For opioid-naïve patients or those with uncontrolled severe pain, the usual starting dose is 10 mg every 12 hours. Some may benefit from a lower starting dose of 5 mg to minimize side effects.
Titration: The dosage should be adjusted based on the severity of pain and patient tolerance. Increases can be made in increments of 25% to 50%, depending on individual needs.
Maximum Dose: The maximum recommended dose is typically up to 200 mg every 12 hours; however, some patients may require higher doses.

Method of Administration

Oxeltra tablets must be swallowed whole without breaking, chewing, or crushing them. This ensures the controlled release mechanism functions properly over a period of twelve hours.

                                                          Conclusion

In summary, Oxeltra 80mg serves as an effective option for managing severe pain but requires careful consideration regarding dosing, potential risks of addiction or dependence, and monitoring for adverse effects. Proper patient education about usage guidelines and safety precautions is essential for optimal therapeutic outcomes.
